Crotched Mountain Aquatics offers a range of swimming lessons for people of all ages and abilities. All of our swim instructors are American Red Cross certified Water Safety Instructors. The American Red Cross Swimming and Water Safety program combines the best in swim instruction with a strong emphasis on drowning prevention and water safety. Courses are available for a variety of ages and skill levels to encourage healthy, lifelong recreational habits and to help keep your family safe.

COST
Community: $54 per student. Note: $54 first two siblings, additional sibling $43
Greenfield residents: $43 per student
Crotched Mountain employees: $33 per student

CANCELLATION NOTICE
Make up classes due to Crotched Mountain cancellations will be made up the week following the end of the enrolled session. Classes missed by individuals are not refundable. Credit for programs will be given to those who need to cancel a registration and do so in advance.

SESSIONS
Session 1: Runs the week of September 11, 2017 through the week of October 16, 2017. (No class Monday October 9, 2017.  This class will be made up Monday October 23, 2017)

Session 2: Runs the week of October 30, 2017 through the week of December 11, 2017.  (No classes the week of November 20, 2017 for Thanksgiving break. Check out our extended family swim schedule)

Session 3:  Runs the week of January 8, 2018 through the week of February 12, 2018.

Session 4:  Runs the week of March 5, 2018 through the week of April 9, 2018.

Session 5: Runs the week of April 30,2018 through the week of June 4, 2018.  (No class Monday May 28, 2018.  This class will be made up Monday June 11, 2018.)

Session 6:  Runs the week of July 9, 2018 through the week of  August 13, 2018.

For minimum/maximum enrollment, costs and upcoming schedules, please choose from the following:

Parent and Child
Ages 6 months to about 3 years; held in our therapy pool. Parent must accompany child in the water. these classes lay an early foundation for children to succeed in the Learn to Swim Program with the objective of having fun and becoming comfortable in, on, and around water. They also help parents feel more comfortable handling and playing with their child in the water.

Preschool Aquatics
Ages 3 to 5 years; held in our therapy pool. Preschool classes are for preschool children ages 3-5 years with limited or no water experience. These classes are without a parent or guardian. This level helps young children learn basic aquatic skills while developing positive attitudes, good swimming habits and safe practices in and around the water.

Learn to Swim

Level 1
Introduction to Water Skills; eligibility based on ability rather than age. Held in our recreation pool. The objective of Level 1 is to help students feel comfortable in the water and to enjoy the water safely. Level 1 participants learn to enter and exit the water safely, submerge mouth, nose and eyes, exhale and open eyes underwater, roll over from front to back and back to front with support, explore floating on front and back with support, explore swimming on front and back using arm and leg actions with support and use of life jacket.

Level 2
Fundamental Aquatic Skills; student must have passed or show competency in Level 1 skills. Held in our recreation pool. This level marks the beginning of true locomotion skills. Level 2 participants learn to: Enter water by stepping or jumping from the side, exit water safely using ladder or side, submerge entire head, blow bubbles (bobbing), open eyes underwater, float on front and back, front and back glides, change directions, roll over from front to back and back to front, tread water, and swim on front, back and side using combined arm and leg actions.

Level 3
Stroke Development; student must have passed or shown competency in Level 2 skills. Held in our recreation pool. Level 3 participants learn to: Jump into deep water, dive in, bob with the head fully submerged, rotary breathing, front and back glides, float on front and back in deep water, change from horizontal to vertical position on front and back, front and back crawl, and butterfly-kick and body motion.

Level 4
Stroke Improvement; student must have passed or shown competency in Level 3 skills. Held in our recreation pool.Level 4 participants learn to: Perform standing dive, swim underwater, feet-first surface dive, open turns on front and back treading water, front and back crawl, breaststroke, butterfly and elementary backstroke.

Level 5
Stroke Refinement; student must have passed or shown competency in Level 4 skills. Held in our recreation pool.  Level 5 participants learn to perform the following: Standing shallow dive, tuck and pike surface dives, front and back flip turns, front and back crawl, butterfly, breaststroke, elementary backstroke, sidestroke and survival swimming.
