Frequently Asked Questions

What kind of work would I be doing?
As a Student Support Professional you will work in our residential program on our beautiful mountain campus. You will support a student with disability, helping them achieve their educational and developmental goals as well as providing for their daily living needs. Your work shift will be either 2-10pm during the week or 7am-10pm on Saturday and Sunday.

How would you describe the students at Crotched Mountain School?
Every student is unique, but typically we serve children that the school district just doesn’t have the resoures to serve. Over half of our students have an autism diagnosis. Most have a communication challenge. Some have a physical disability. As we like to say: this won’t be the easiest job you’ll have but it will be the most rewarding.

Is there training and support?
Yes and yes! You will be fully trained and working alongside knowledgeable, supportive staff in a group home environment.

Would there be certifications available?
Yes. Crotched Mountain School offers the Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) certification for free. Learn more about the benefits of getting your RBT here.

How about my my living space? What’s that going to be like?
Year of Impact participants will have spacious, newly-renovated single-occupancy dorm-style accomodations with private bathrooms in each room (if you’d like to room with a best friend we have larger multiple-occupancy rooms; there are incentives for this). In addition, there is a common area with a big-screen high-def TV and a shared kitchen. You’ll have all the privacy you’ll ever want, but still be steps away from a welcoming community. And remember: this is your year-round apartment! Regardless of your shift, you’ll always have this place on campus 24/7!

What can I do when I’m not working?
Your times your own. Sleep in, fire up a Blu-ray, go for a hike (Crotched Mountain School has the largest mountain-based accessible trail in the country!), explore New Hampshire, or if you’d like to learn more about some of the cool stuff that happens in our school, schedule some time to observe nursing, OT, PT, Speech, or Therapeutic Recreation.

How about WiFi? I need Wifi!
We’ve got you covered.  WiFi is free in your residence!
