Crotched Mountain Aquatics offers a range of swimming lessons for people of all ages and abilities. All of our swim instructors are American Red Cross certified Water Safety Instructors. The American Red Cross Swimming and Water Safety program combines the best in swim instruction with a strong emphasis on drowning prevention and water safety. Courses are available for a variety of ages and skill levels to encourage healthy, lifelong recreational habits and to help keep your family safe.

COST
Community: $54 per student. Note: $54 first two siblings, additional sibling $43
Greenfield residents: $43 per student
Crotched Mountain employees: $33 per student

CANCELLATION NOTICE
Make up classes due to Crotched Mountain cancellations will be made up the week following the end of the enrolled session. Classes missed by individuals are not refundable. Credit for programs will be given to those who need to cancel a registration and do so in advance.

Parent and Child
Ages 6 months to about 3 years; held in our therapy pool. Parent must accompany child in the water. these classes lay an early foundation for children to succeed in the Learn to Swim Program with the objective of having fun and becoming comfortable in, on, and around water. They also help parents feel more comfortable handling and playing with their child in the water.

Preschool Aquatics
Ages 3 to 5 years; held in our therapy pool. Preschool classes are for preschool children ages 3-5 years with limited or no water experience. These classes are without a parent or guardian. This level helps young children learn basic aquatic skills while developing positive attitudes, good swimming habits and safe practices in and around the water.

Learn to Swim

Level 1
Introduction to Water Skills; eligibility based on ability rather than age. Held in our recreation pool. The objective of Level 1 is to help students feel comfortable in the water and to enjoy the water safely. Level 1 participants learn to enter and exit the water safely, submerge mouth, nose and eyes, exhale and open eyes underwater, roll over from front to back and back to front with support, explore floating on front and back with support, explore swimming on front and back using arm and leg actions with support and use of life jacket.

Level 2
Fundamental Aquatic Skills; student must have passed or show competency in Level 1 skills. Held in our recreation pool. This level marks the beginning of true locomotion skills. Level 2 participants learn to: Enter water by stepping or jumping from the side, exit water safely using ladder or side, submerge entire head, blow bubbles (bobbing), open eyes underwater, float on front and back, front and back glides, change directions, roll over from front to back and back to front, tread water, and swim on front, back and side using combined arm and leg actions.

Level 3
Stroke Development; student must have passed or shown competency in Level 2 skills. Held in our recreation pool. Level 3 participants learn to: Jump into deep water, dive in, bob with the head fully submerged, rotary breathing, front and back glides, float on front and back in deep water, change from horizontal to vertical position on front and back, front and back crawl, and butterfly-kick and body motion.

Stroke Improvement; student must have passed or shown competency in Level 3 skills. Master Swim & Triathlon Training
Whether you are a beginner or advanced swimmer, our coaching staff can teach adults ages 16 and above proper techniques and efficiency to master swimming strokes or even train for triathlons. We will teach you efficient swimming techniques, challenge you with great workouts and send you home with a new perspective on swimming and even the triathlon.

CANCELLATION NOTICE
There are no scheduled make up classes. Classes missed by individuals are not refundable. Credit for programs will be given to those who need to cancel a registration and do so in advance.

We offer several types of open swim opportunities in our Aquatics Center for people of all ages and abilities. We hope you will join us and enjoy our beautiful facility.

Family Swim
Bring the family to splash and play in our recreation pool! We offer many water toys and flotation devices for your use, or bring your own. Any child using a flotation device MUST be within arms reach of an adult at all times. Children under age 16 must be accompanied by an adult. No need to sign up beforehand, you may register when you arrive.

SUMMER SCHEDULE

Tot Family Swim
For those of you that are looking for something for the younger ones, try out our Tot Family Swim that is held in our therapy pool. Tot swim is reserved for children 5 years and younger. Children must be accompanied by an adult in the water. If your family has siblings older than 5, they may swim in the recreation pool if they are a Level 3 swimmer or higher and their parent/guardian is in the therapy pool.

Lifeguard and WSI 2017-08-10T15:01:50+00:00

As a Red Cross-certified instruction program, Crotched Mountain Aquatics will give you the skills you’ll need to become an elite lifeguard.

Lifeguard Course
Ages 15 and up (must be 15 by day of last class). A 35-hour course designed to teach lifeguard candidates the skills and knowledge needed to prevent and respond to aquatic emergencies. The course content and activities prepare candidates to recognize and respond quickly to emergencies and prevent drownings and injuries. Upon successful Completion, candidates will receive an American Red Cross certification in Lifeguarding, First Aid, CPR for the professional rescuer and AED training.

The minimum number of students needed to hold this course is six; 100% attendance is required. No maximum enrollment. Candidates must pass a prerequisites skills test on the first day of class.

It is highly recommended you prepare yourself for the lifeguard course and prerequisite skills. By securing your spot with a $50 deposit (or full payment) in the Lifeguard Training course, you are eligible to utilize our Lap Swim schedule for conditioning and endurance training.

Prerequisite skills test includes: 
Swim 300 yards continuously, using these strokes in the following order:
Swim 300 yards continuously demonstrating breath control and rhythmic breathing.
Candidates may swim using front crawl, breaststroke or a combination of both.
Swimming on the back or side is not allowed.
Swim goggles may be used.
Complete a timed event within 1 minute, 40 seconds.
Starting in the water, swim 20 yards. The face may be in or out of the water. Swim goggles are NOT allowed.
Surface dive, feet-first or head first, to a depth of 7 to 10 feet to retrieve a 10 pound object.
Return to the surface and swim 20 yards on the back to return to the starting point with both hands holding the object and keeping the face at or near the surface. Candidates should NOT swim the distance under the water.
Exit the water without using a ladder or steps.
Tread water for 2 minutes using only legs. (Place hands under the armpits.)

COST: $275

Life Guard Recertification/Review Course
Individuals that possess a current lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED or Shallow Water Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED certificate may participate in a review/re-certification course. This course is designed for those individuals that are looking to renew their lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/SED certifications before they expire. The purpose of a review course is to give individuals the opportunity to review the course content within a formal course setting. The review course format optimizes a participant’s ability to successfully complete the knowledge and skills evaluations.

COST: $175 (must possess current lifeguard certification)

Water Safety Instructor Course
Ages 16 and up (must be 16 by day of last class). This 35-hour course provides the necessary training for candidates to become certified as Water Safety Instructors.

Includes American Red Cross Fundamentals of Instructor Training (anyone who has had this training before will be excused from this part of the course). Certification is valid as long as you teach at least one course every two years.

The minimum number of students needed to hold this course is six; maximum enrollment is 10. Prerequisites – participants must have a Learn to Swim Level 5 or ability or better.

Lap swim is available to those 16 years and older. A year round opportunity to enjoy lap swim with your peers in our 25 yard recreation pool. Four lanes are offered during lap swim. Feel free to relax in our 6 person hot tub after your swim.

Liquid Magic
An open swim time designed for individuals looking to use our warm water therapy pool to help  increase joint range of motion and reduce pain and stiffness.  This time is ideal for anyone suffering from Arthritis, fibromyalgia, or general joint pain.  Pool depth varies depending upon individuals in attendance.  This is not a led class, but an open swim time to utilize your own movements and exercises.

As with any of our programs a certified lifeguard is on duty during this time for general pool safety, however anyone needing assistance while in the water must provide their own support aide. For those individuals that need to bring someone  into the water with them for assistance, there will be no charge to the person that is coming in to help with assistance.

Looking for a unique birthday party idea? Need to practice your scuba skills before vacation? Too cold to practice your turns and rolls in the kayak? Why not rent one of our pools out! Both our recreation pool and therapy pool are available for rentals. A lifeguard is on duty at all times for all rentals.

Life Guard Recertification/Review Course
Individuals that possess a current lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED or Shallow Water Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED certificate may participate in a review/re-certification course. This course is designed for those individuals that are looking to renew their lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/SED certifications before they expire. The purpose of a review course is to give individuals the opportunity to review the course content within a formal course setting. The review course format optimizes a participant’s ability to successfully complete the knowledge and skills evaluations.

COST: $175 (must possess current lifeguard certification)

Water Safety Instructor Course
Ages 16 and up (must be 16 by day of last class). This 35-hour course provides the necessary training for candidates to become certified as Water Safety Instructors.

Includes American Red Cross Fundamentals of Instructor Training (anyone who has had this training before will be excused from this part of the course). Certification is valid as long as you teach at least one course every two years.

The minimum number of students needed to hold this course is six; maximum enrollment is 10. Prerequisites – participants must have a Learn to Swim Level 5 or ability or better.

Lap swim is available to those 16 years and older. A year round opportunity to enjoy lap swim with your peers in our 25 yard recreation pool. Four lanes are offered during lap swim. Feel free to relax in our 6 person hot tub after your swim.

Crotched Mountain’s Aquatics Center offers recreational swimming opportunities for people of all ages and abilities. To register for any of our Open Swim options feel free to come up and purchase a pass the day that you would like to start swimming. No need to register beforehand. You may also fill out a registration form and send it in with a payment.

Liquid Magic
An open swim time designed for individuals looking to use our warm water therapy pool to help  increase joint range of motion and reduce pain and stiffness.  This time is ideal for anyone suffering from Arthritis, fibromyalgia, or general joint pain.  Pool depth varies depending upon individuals in attendance.  This is not a led class, but an open swim time to utilize your own movements and exercises.

As with any of our programs a certified lifeguard is on duty during this time for general pool safety, however anyone needing assistance while in the water must provide their own support aide. For those individuals that need to bring someone  into the water with them for assistance, there will be no charge to the person that is coming in to help with assistance.

Splish & Splash
An open swim time designed for individuals with a variety of disabilities or special needs and their families.  Pool depth varies depending upon individuals in attendance.  A great way for families to find support and friendships from the area with families living with special needs children.  Open to all ages, offered in our therapy pool. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Looking for a unique birthday party idea? Need to practice your scuba skills before vacation? Too cold to practice your turns and rolls in the kayak? Why not rent one of our pools out! Both our recreation pool and therapy pool are available for rentals. A lifeguard is on duty at all times for all rentals.

1 hour rental for recreation pool $97
